Immerse in Istanbul’s Bazaar Culture
Grand Bazaar is located at the 3rd hill of the old Istanbul near the ancient agora of Constantinopolis. This bazaar is like a labyrinth in which it is not possible to not get lost inside. It consists of around four thousand shops, 66 streets, and 26 gates. It has hidden courtyards and shops.
Ancient Istanbul was a commercial hub and on the famous spice and silk route. Because of this, merchants from all around the world were coming to this commercial center for trading and business. However, this much business made the city a rich city and a center of culture and art.
When we talk about Istanbul and the ottoman empire we must definitely talk about historical and hidden bazaars. Actually, historical bazaars are the best way to understand the social life and culture of a society, for that reason going into a historical bazaar isn’t meant to be a bazaar for shopping only. People are also spending time there for socializing, having a cup of coffee and a nice conversation is always one of the best ways of spending time and having a great experience in these bazaars. For that reason inside this historical and covered bazaar, there are cafes, restaurants, and even masjids for praying. There are also banks and ATMs inside the grand bazaar so you can easily spend your money here 🙂
This bazaar is around 600 years old and has the fame of being the oldest and biggest covered bazaar in the world. The grand bazaar is by far the best example which still exists as the center of the organic economy and is located in the heart of the old world trade center Istanbul.
If you want to explore the hidden corners, alleyways, centuries-old authentic shops, and have a cup of Turkish coffee, Istanbul is waiting for you.
